Anybody know the answer to this?

I think it's just that everyone plays cards simultaneously, instead of in turn order.

everyone plays their cards at same time without knowing what others do

normal play is that everyone does that phase of the round in turn order. this gives people info on if someone ahead of them is switching to say carnivore as an example
