ok, so 5,000 years ago I suspect the Orkney island were Pictish, if anything. The Scotti didn't move from Ireland until about 1,500 years ago and the Norse probably got there before Scots. /yes, I am being THAT GUY, sorry/ Beat me to it :-) I'm sure whatever language the neolithic inhabitants spoke...
