I just assumed they'd simplified so there are max 4 leagues now but copy pasted the wrong update here saying there were no changes.

I actually quite like the idea of Max 4 leagues and everyone starting each season at the bottom. Feels fair.

I definitely keep it in mind and have used it to win at least once. But it is very much as it was intended: a bonus scoring option rather than main game strategy.
