It has been shown that the starting player has a statistical advantage, winning about 54% of the time, if I am not mistaken. It is all in the details. How and when does the opponent concede? There are some Master-level players (I play Azul and Carcassonne, both 2p) who concede the moment their winning chances go down to 0%, and not a moment earlier. This would incentivize players not to play until the end of the season. So we'd have very few players participating in the first two months and then a frenzy at the end.
