Improving TM Playability for the Blind

Hi All, I am a totally blind player who has recently discovered Turing Machine. It looks like a fun logic puzzle and I would love to be able to experience it on BGA, but the current implementation leaves a bit to be desired in accessibility terms. I wanted to see whether it might be possible to make...

Re: My Experience Playing BGA Totally Blind

I had almost forgotten about this thread :) Since making my last post here I've discovered a couple more games which are mostly playable, but the vast majority are still kind of opaque. It's purely a matter of UI, and a bit of unfamiliarity with the physical board(s), in some cases. Thanks for the j...

Re: My Experience Playing BGA Totally Blind

Yeah. The game log in general is super useful, but I guess that's one more thing which is subject to the whims of game developers.

I do wonder how a lot of the game state is stored internally. Surely there's some kind of representation of the board or other info, depending.

Re: My Experience Playing BGA Totally Blind

APologies for the double post. I just got to wondering what sorts of scripting might be possible to improve the accessibility of individual games? I know that probably skirts a line and I have no desire to cheat. I am aware of tools which would permit the creation of user-genearted scripts, but don'...

Re: My Experience Playing BGA Totally Blind

One more thing I just remembered, and why I like RFTG, is that headings are useful to separate parts of the game. I appreciate being able to easily distinguish between my tableau, my hand, my opponent's cards, etc. That's not to say it's perfect, there are some things like selection status of cards ...

Re: My Experience Playing BGA Totally Blind

Yeah, I realize that from a development perspective it would be far easier to work on this if BGA was willing to put in some effort at the framework level. I don't blame developers for not doing the work because realistically, most screen reader users would not find this remotely usable. Still, it's...

Re: My Experience Playing BGA Totally Blind

Definitely, the more keyboard shortcuts the better. The other major area where things are difficult is identifying what's going on either on the board or with individual game pieces. A lot of games do have tooltips but they often use iconography wich the screen reader does not detect. For instance, ...

My Experience Playing BGA Totally Blind

Hi All, I wanted to write as I've recently started -playing around with BGA in ernest, though I have been a member for quite a while. I am totally blind, that is, have no vision at all, and use a screen reader program. The experience thus far is pretty awful, to be blunt. Accessibility varies wildly...
