I really think the best strategy is being flexible and knowing how to adapt to different situations, but some particular combos I find really fun are native farm animals + diversity researcher, as well as barred owl hut + penguin pool

I think it's the best card in the game on outdoor areas, the original silver lake (new one it's fine), and commercial harbour. Every other map I think it's generally a very good sponsor if you get it early, a strong card but not singularly strong.

I think card values vary a lot by player count; at 4p I rarely upgrade sponsors (or cards!). Obviously other cards vary a lot in power, even more than this. I don't know how they balance such cards! Does anyone know if the designers balance ornithologist etc. around 2, 3, or 4p, or the average powe...

I think JDansp suggested that the 2nd player should start with an x token, which I personally prefer to a clever ability

It already says it on the map tooltip. Seeing that saved me in my first game playing it, but in a later game I forgot about it and dug away a petting zoo. The problem is once you dig and get reminded the petting zoo can't go in a slot, you can't undo. Not sure if adding a warning here is possible, ...
