Re: How can I quit a game if a player hasn’t been online for a month, without losing reputation?

if you've lost interest in the game you can just make nonsense moves when it's your turn. That would be better than quitting. Maybe for you a game going indefinitely with a player that has left the site or a game continuing with an opponent making random moves would be better but I'd rather the gam...

Re: How can I quit a game if a player hasn’t been online for a month, without losing reputation?

All your current turn based games are in friendly mode - there's no time limit and no time penalties but there's also no reputation hit for quitting so you can just leave Also turn based games get abandoned after 40 days of no activity - the longest running game you have should be abandoned in 4 days

Re: doubles in Castles of burgundy

And, really, I'd really appreciate it if somebody could show me where I went wrong. That would make me feel better too. I don't know how much this would impact it but there is a dice roll (I believe) at the start of the game to determine turn order which can't be a double so I assume that would bum...

Re: doubles in Castles of burgundy

Except we have zero evidence that it is exactly a 1/6 chance Again, If you have evidence that the PHP random_int function, or the randomness it is based on is producing output that is not fair I would urge you to contact the PHP Security team: https://www.php.net/contact.php as this would have an i...

Re: doubles in Castles of burgundy

When people play a game and they use a dice, they don't just want to have the illusion that the dice is random. They want each side to have exactly a 1/6 chance of coming up. I agree people want a die to be perfectly fair and for each side to have the same probability. I am saying that a perfect so...

Re: doubles in Castles of burgundy

You seem to think people only care about getting the illusion of randomness. If someone uses a slot machine, has a good time playing it, then later on they learn that the machine didn't fit the specifications, they would most likely complain or at least not find it normal. If the randomness is indi...

Re: doubles in Castles of burgundy

I don't think that's true. When people say that, for example, they want a slot machine to be random, what they mean is true randomness. They want the randomness to be perfect in a mathematical sense. I think most people just want the outcome to be unpredictable and fair. If I have two sources of ra...

Re: doubles in Castles of burgundy

since we live in a deterministic world, probably nothing is truly random I think this is a much more narrow usage of the word random than most people use, to the point of making the word useless, and I think you're just arguing semantics. For the purposes of a board game site computer functions are...
