The tutorial seems to be a little picky. It'll let you play through if you click on the cards in the order it specified. Or at least, it let me go through once i clicked on the cards in the order it wanted.

You can try adjusting the size of the fauna/island cards. The adjustment sliders at the top might help.

Was getting 23 sprouts, 2 growths, 2 seeds, 2 cards and 1 soil for every water action i took heh. So i spammed it 5 times.

It's all about card synergy. 1st or 2nd to fill the board doesn't matter. I often let the opponent plant last if I know im scoring more vp doing something else. There's obviously a situation if you are many cards behind in planting you're probably in trouble. I don't even look at my opponent board ...
