The same thing happened in Agricola, but there has been no response from BGA, which makes me question whether they ever read these posts.

Grumbleguts is correct. Arena rules state the following:
For games with 2 or 3 different leagues, all players are decreased by 1 league.

League relegation rules weren't followed correctly for Agricola. Elite players from Season 20 are starting in Bronze for Season 21. I've filed a bug report for this issue: https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=165354
