The flaw isn't in the ELO system itself but the ranking design that goes along with it. Being ranked "Good", "Expert" or otherwise should not hinge on the exacting ELO numbers of 1600+, 1800+, etc. Once a player reaches "Good"(etc) status they should retain that status ...

Turn based games should be optional

There should be a checkbox to opt out of turn based games. Otherwise creating games takes several more clicks.
