The original rule where the round didn't end because one player (in a two-player game) went straight to the trail's end was much better than needing to have a dummy player. When I was in elementary school, I was always taught that you should either say good game or offer a handshake after a tournament game (whether it be after a basketball game or a chess match). For me, regardless of the outcome, saying gg or 'good game' (my preference) is as close to shaking someone'...

My solution: only those who time-out have their ELO affected as if they lost and everyone else would have nothing happen to their rating as if the game had been aborted from the start. For tournament games, a computer player, with the same skill level based on the ELO rating of the timed-out player ...
