The published rules are frustratingly unclear on this point, but I agree with the OP. If the temple donations are 4, 4, 3, 0 the points should be 10, 10, 4, 0 not 10, 10, 7, 0. The tied players both get the benefit of the tie, but 3rd place is still 3rd place, same at the Olympics they occasionally ...
