Short game has less rounds, that's all. You have less time to build up your recruited army and less time to fight monsters.

If you have a Premium account, you can use "Invite A Friend" and select "Hot Seat" mode, which would allow you to give yourself a second name to play against.

I agree that I've always thought that the final round of census should be automatic. Is there EVER a reason for any player to hide a piece at the end of the game?
