Re: There are ZERO reasons tournament games have "Skip" other than some people abuse it for personal advantages

If someone is flat-out gone and not playing, they should be skipped. If a game is close to finishing and someone is skipped, that's the abuse most people don't like.

Re: There are ZERO reasons tournament games have "Skip" other than some people abuse it for personal advantages

The problem with "skip" is it creates a negative incentive. If you're losing, you want to skip and force a tie. If you're winning, you want the game to end normally. One solution is to just autoskip the moment someone runs out of time. That would eliminate accusations of abuse, since the t...

Re: Not seeing an async game conclude is a bad user experience

You do get a notification when a turn-based game concludes. It shows up in a different place than the "it's your turn" notification.

Re: The ELO (rating) system is far, far too fluid.

Any system giving +x for a victory and -x for a defeat would result in all players with more than 50% win rate having an unlimited ELO (i.e. 8700 or whatever the current maximum is) and all players with less than 50% win rate having 100 ELO. No, because a +2 cap would mean +2 on a victory and -18 o...

Re: The ELO (rating) system is far, far too fluid.

It would possible to do it by data mining. For example, only look at games where both players have 300+ elo, and see how often the better player wins based on elo difference. Use that to determine the cap. Someone else complained about "elo volatility", which probably means the K factor sh...

Re: The ELO (rating) system is far, far too fluid.

Elo does not work for games with a luck component. For some games on this site, someone who knows the basic strategy will win at least 30% of the time (Jump Drive, Abandon All Artichokes, many others). For a game like that, the Elo system will lead to an unfair result when one player has a much high...

Some Questions

If the last chip in the bag is a wild, how does that affect final scoring? BGG said that wilds are their own category when that happens. The player who triggers the endgame has to declare their wilds first? Then their opponent gets to see what they declared, and then pick their wilds? Doesn't that m...

Re: Needs Color Blind Option

"Hover over every card" really isn't a viable option after the first few turns, especially if you're looking at your opponent's board. It's frustrating because some simple icon enhancements would make it color blind friendly. Ticket to Ride is a good example of colors done well. There's al...

Re: Tournaments - August

I usually set my tournaments for 24 hour play and give a generous time allowance. There really should be a Fisher Clock option for tournaments. I.e., you get +8 or +24 hours to your clock whenever you make a move, to a maximum bank of 2 days. The way tournaments work now is it's a fixed time allocat...
