Unfortunate new backgammon version ... if it ain't broken don't fix it. The old version was straight forward fast and fun. Unreal BGA changed to new slow version. I vote BS ( bull shit )

Dear Concerned.

I suggest writing on paper players name ... tape it to your wall behind your comp or on your comp for quick reference. ( cliff notes)

Dear Concerned.

I vote for no cube play online. In person yes. We players get approx. 10 or more rating points each win. And no cube limits abusive bahaviour from bad actors.
