The expansion makes this a less effective strategy.

The thing that cracks me up is that when you click the magnifying glass above the rooms on offer, it brings up that room in a window at the exact same size!

Counter opinion: The new version is much more interesting. Granted, I didn't play any of the expansions for the original version, but this one is so much more juicy!

Oh that makes sense. I always play 2 player. That's why that didn't occur to me.

Perhaps it would be easier to implement some of the modes for the first 3 maps first. Expert mode (passing cards) would work for all 3 maps and would be a relatively small change.
