Love Letter - Constable + Downager Queen BUT no point

Playing Love Letter today. One of the players discarded a Constable and then knocked himself out when he played a Dowager Queen and had the higher card. We thought he should get a point but he didn't, does anyone know why? Thanks in advice for any wisdom!
