I think it would be nice to reduce the advantage of starting. For example by having 5 hand cards for the starting player. Or by having 7 hand cards for the non-starting player. Or by having 5 points for starters for the non-starting player. Or by having one tree spaling for the non-starting player. ...

To have fresh variations of factions, I would welcome to play with random factions+positions, but WITH an auction at the start? That option does not seem to be available? Might be interesting for newby and expert games to get fresh combinations of factions and to speed that part of the game up a bit...
