The Battle for Hill 218

We are excited today to introduce on Board Game Arena a first game about real world military strategy, The Battle for Hill 218 from game designer Darwin Kastle published by Your Move Games.

In The Battle for Hill 218, you'll be a WW2 military commander trying his best to get control of a crucial strategic asset marked on the map as "Hill 218". That's the order from HQ: you have no choice on the matter. The trouble is, on the other side of the Hill dwells an army as determined and well equipped as your own, so you'll have to be the best at deploying your units while maintaining a proper supply line, and find the weak points of the enemy's front line to attack where he won't be able to recover.

Each player starts with a military base on his side of the hill, and must deploy from there to try and occupy the enemy's base to win the game. Each unit has specific characteristics: range of attack, range from which they can draw supply, range in which they can offer support to attack an enemy unit. All units except Tank and Artillery need support from another unit to be able to destroy an enemy target, and all units except Paratroopers can be put in play only in a place where they can draw from an uninterrupted line of supply to the base. When they are put in play, units immediately attack one enemy unit in their range (if they have the proper support to attack that target, or don't need support). Then they stay in play to provide a relay in the supply line to allow for further advances. Each side can also call headquarters to request an Air Strike (at most two times) to gain a decisive advantage or get out of a tough spot.

The Battle for Hill 218 is a quick and tense game for two players, in which you'll have to select carefully from your hand which units to play, which ones to keep for later, and where to take and hold positions. The places on the map you'll occupy are actually as important - if not more - than any target you'll destroy: you'll quickly discover that even though it's simple to learn, this game has a lot of strategic depth that will keep you engaged game after game!

We would like to thank both the developer Daniel Holmes (dhau) who took over a project that had been started by several developers along the years to bring it to completion, and the publisher Your Move Games for contacting us and giving us the opportunity to have this much appreciated card game here on BGA!

So, will you get your flag on this Hill 218 or not?
