On this first month of 2018, we have the pleasure to release Kabaleo, a game from Jean-Luc Renaud published by Gigamic.

Kabaleo is a nice abstract game for 2 to 4 players, in which you need to get a majority of stacks of the pyramid-shaped pieces with your secret color at the top in order to win. But of course, if you are too obvious, your opponent will guess your secret color early and be able to counter your moves. So you'll have to try and be subtle... Can you do that? On your turn, you can set a pyramid on top of a base or on top of a stack. If two pyramids of the same color are stacked on top of one another, they cancel out and get removed from the game, revealing the color below.

Unlike some other abstracts, Kabaleo feels very light and fun: decisions are taken really fast and the secret color adds uncertainty and suspense till the end. Also, the very colorful pieces make this game a pleasure to play!

This project actually had a complex history: it's been started multiple times without going very far, and then a developer (ber00000) actually got the game to a working state but never notified us (or the email got lost maybe ;) ) and so we discovered late that the game was almost complete. We asked an experienced developer (Victoria_La) to take a look and she was able to finish the project quickly and improve the interface to make it really nice to play.

In the meantime, the game had gotten out of print and the copyright situation had changed so our original authorization by the publisher was not sufficient anymore, and we had to reach out to the author to make sure everything was alright! Finally we got there, and we hope that you'll enjoy the game! Thanks a lot to both developers, to the publisher Gigamic and to the author Jean-Luc Renaud for making it possible to have Kabaleo here on BGA!

Have fun stacking pyramids!
