Tonight the sky is full of stars. How about drawing the constellations before daybreak?
Reveal a night card, and then simultaneously all draw the shape on your card.
At the end of the game, score points for the constellations of different sizes that you have created, as well as planets, shooting stars and other bonuses...
Look at the Stars is a family flip and write game, such as in Railroad Ink, Cartographers, etc. The idea is to make constellations with different numbers of stars (from 3 to 8), to leave room for some shooting stars, and to make the shapes requested by the communal goal, as these will give you extra perks when you make them. After the 3 stacks of cards are empty, the game is over, and the person with the most points will be the winner!
The rules are pretty minimal: each round a shape is revealed, and players will draw it on their boards, trying to make constellations of different sizes, as each size scores separately. After each stack of 6 cards is completed, some areas of the board can longer can be used (the sun is rising). There are several rules for the drawing: you cannot mirror the shape; you cannot intersect or overlap; a line must always connect orthogonally or diagonally; multiple lines can share the same star; lines can go over planets, shooting stars, or other objects, etc. Most, if not all, are easy to grasp in the first game.
It is a pleasure to see your plan develop, inch by inch filling the gaps and, maybe, finishing with a night sky that you are proud of- or, at least, laugh when all goes wrong. As the stacks of cards finish, the room for drawing gets smaller, thus preparation is definitely a must to do well.
Look at the Stars manages to be around the top (alongside luminaries such as Railroad Ink) of the solitaire crowd!
Up to 8 players can play simultaneously, and there are many different bonus cards to play again and again.
