Hey all,
tl;dr - new discord server I created. The permanent link is: https://discord.gg/YUG5f7Z
First question - is there an existing chat location specifically for BGA developers? I guess BGA chat could fill that role, but it doesn't have many features (rightly so - why reinvent the wheel).
If not... I think it would be cool/helpful/fun to get an online chat channel going for BGA developers. This forum's great for longer-lived, harder, more involved problems / questions, but a chat or instant messaging platform provide a less-formal, quicker-response interface for short one-off types of questions and discussions. It could also be a great way to build community. I'm likely to sit on a chat channel all day while at my day job. Checking it occasionally. I won't and don't do that for this forum.
To that end, I created a discord server, called bga-developers. I've used discord very little but have a feeling it would be a good platform for this. I think if you go here: https://discord.gg/RJXFBg you can join the server. I by no means want to "own" this. I'd like to make other people admins, or if someone knows a better platform I'd rather use that.
Channels - before taking the time to customize (again, I'm not a discord expert) the server to what channels, permissions, etc. might be needed, I'd like to see if and how the discussion grows. Then create channels around what has developed organically. That said, I can envision a few channels to help segment the conversation(s): announcements, general, getting-started, framework, user-interface design, collaboration opportunities, bug hunting, bga-platform suggestions, off-topic.
Hope to see you on the discord!
- John
