Dinosaur Tea Party in BETA

Post by Spukyta »

Hi all,

Dinosaur Tea Party is now in Beta! It has been approved by 46 reviewers with an average rating of 4.78 stars. Thanks to all the alpha-testers ;)

Rules:
Dinosaur Tea Party is a game of deduction for 2-5 players that plays in about 15 minutes. Each player takes a card corresponding to one of the dino guests. Players take turns asking each other questions or guessing their dinosaur’s name. If someone guesses your name, draw a new card. The first player to guess three names, wins the game. But be careful. Three curious quirks mean you can’t be certain whether that brachiosaurus in the bowler is Carlton or Quinton.

Game variants:
-Normal game: all the questions result in a token put down, correct or incorrect
-Clever mode: If you want a more challenging game, use this variant. When an answer is NO, no token is put down, so the players will have to remember the NO answers.

This is my first adaptation in Board Game Arena, enjoy and thank you all!

It says "XAVIER" in the card, but "Xabier" in the text.

We played our first game last weekend.

Two opportunities for improvement:

1) Add list of incorrect guesses under each player's name. Unless scrolling through history and taking notes, multiple players may keep guessing the same name for a given player's dinosaur.

2) When highlighting/mouseover a "Yes" answer, the highlighted dinosaurs are the ones that match the condition (e.g. WEARING HAT = YES). When hovering over a "No" answer (e.g. WEARING HAT = NO), the highlighted dinosaurs are the ones that are are Wearing Hat, instead of Not Wearing Hat. It was very confusing for many players until maybe about halfway through the game.

This game was fun! It was super accessible and the art was charming!

I completely agree with @mooken and want to add one more to the list for improvements!

3) In general, just make all of the icons (traits especially) bigger. Even the "magnified" card pictures had our group squinting.

... constructive criticism aside, this was a fun, short, new, 5-player-game that isn't leaving the rotation any time soon.
