Board Game Arena

I feel like I am missing something with the strategy of this game. It seems I am always just covering up whatever my opponent played and if I play somewhere new instead it gets immediately covered by my opponent. I lose most of the time by running out of cards, which makes me feel like I'm playing this wrong.

As far as I can tell that's pretty much it. 20 round of immediately playing over the other players card. Feels like a game that looks like a game.
