Hanabi: Free cluing.

Post by barakeel »

This is a very simple convention for Hanabi.

- All clues are saves.
- Discard from the chop (right most unclued card).
- Play card you can deduce.

Allowed:
Discard double for a play (if there is one card of this type).
For example discard playable 3blue to force a play on the only other blue card of the other player.
Not allowed:
play leftmost clued card, finesse, ... .

Note: cluing the same card twice does not indicate a play and is just a waste.

Hello
"all clues are saves" : do you mean by this that all clues are not play clues ?
In a 4p game, each player clues twice to save all chops and starts to discard in round 3, to get clues.
I have read somewhere on BGG that mathematically you need 5 finesses to get enough clues to finish perfect games. If finesses are not allowed, you won't have enough clues.

6 colors=60cards.
8 clue at the start.
4 players = 16 cards on starting hand.
44 card to draw.
30 cards to play.
So 13 discard before 1 card to draw.
So you get 21 (+X by 5) clues to give before last turn.

So if on the last turn you play 2g+3g+4g+5g, you need 0 finesse.
If you play 4w+5w+4g+5g, you need 1 finesse.
If you play 5w+4g+5g, you need 2 finesses, etc...

You need to add 4 finesse for 5player without variant, and remove 1 for 5players with variant.
And i didn't count a clue blue (b-?-b-? who make play b4 and b5) or a save/useless clue.

@barakeel : seems like a version of logical leftism (LL) simplified as much as possible.
Guess you need to try to play card who have no danger to be played.
But there is a problem when your hand have all card saved and you are forced to discard. You have really few information about your hand.

As a reminder you can clue more than 1 card per clue.
So by logical deduction, you can get 30 without any finesse or even play clue.
