Hanabi: color save - number play

Post by barakeel »

Here, we present a convention that inverse the role of color and numbers for saving/playing cards on chop.

A little difference In general, we will say that if a color touches the chop it is a save regardless of the discard pile
because you have to save 5 with colors. Therefore it simplifies the convention to take this approach.
A number clue on chop is a play.

Everything else is the same as the standard hanabi convention.

The reason this is a bad idea is that it's much more useful to identify multiple cards of one colour (because some of them may ALSO be subsequently playable, or if you complete a suit they are ALL discardable for clues), whereas if you identify, say, all the 3s in someone's hand all they know is that those 3s CANNOT be played in the same suit. It's only good for THIS move but gives them no information helpful for continuing to build the suit.

I.e. there is actually a logical reason to play colour, save number--it's not merely arbitrary convention.
