87 - 31 : Tokaido, Xiangqi, Terra Mystica

Post by RicardoRix »

Tokaido
Travel along a road collecting sets and encounters and stuff. It's slightly odd that there doesn't seem to be much in the way of choice. It's a pleasant game with smooth game play but yet lacks a bit of tension.

Xiangqi
Chinese chess. If you like chess then give this a bash.
https://en.boardgamearena.com/#!table?table=44804039

Terra Mystica
Awesome game! Fight for territory on a hex map. The factions are varied, interesting and seem very balanced. If you like your board games heavy this give this a whirl. My only gripe is that in a 2-player game, the fight shifts somewhat to the higher difference VP's available on the cult tracks rather than the biggest territory.

90 - 31 : Tzolk'in, Veggie Garde, United Square

Tzolk'in
Just a super cool awesome game, absolutely love it. If you've ever placed a crystal skull down on the last place of the chichen itza then you're half way to board game nirvana. Gather resources, upgrades, feed you meeples. Build buildings and of course climb the temples and gift crystal skull gifts to the gods at the chichen itza.

Veggie Garden
Collect vegtables and rearrange the garden to maximise your score. Sounds dull? Yeah probably because it is. In fairness it plays pretty easy and I can see some competitive strategies coming through for the die hard must win at everything players.

United Square
A 2 player abstract game where you take turns laying 4-coloured tiles down on a grid. Sounds even duller than the Veggie garden? Yeah, that's because it's even duller than that with a cherry on top.

147 in total yes, but there are a few in the score count that were draws, or other players won.

We have 5 more current turn-based games. And the games yet to be played and need to play them real-time are:

Celestia
Gear & Piston
Secret Moon
Saboteur
Time Masters
Incan Gold
Injawara
Oh Hell
KQJ
Remember When.
Thermopyles.
French Tarot.
Guildes.
Hearts

Next up I am thinking of a 7 wonders epic challenge with 6 other people. Playing all different possible combination of opponents. Will be 57 games for each player, 99 games in total.

92 - 32 : Yahtzee, Targi,The Palaces of Carrara.

Yahtzee : Ivardo win.
Shake dice and cross your fingers. This is a good kids game, I guess it has a bit of risk and reward analysis, but the chance / luck element is far too high to be a serious contender with the stony faced strategy gamer. If you like dice roll games then I'd suggest trying out 'Decathlon' a free Print'n'Play game by Reiner Knizia https://knizia.de/wp-content/uploads/re ... athlon.pdf.

Targi : RicardoRix win.
A 2 player medium length game, looks a bit old skool. I like it. You place you meeples (targi) around the outskirts of the grid. Collect resources or buy cards to play in your own 3x4 scoring grid.

So....many....colours....
Buy blocks from a spinning wheel, then buy buildings with your coloured blocks. Score buildings to get coints and VPs and repeat the cycle. There are end game achievments and goals. It's so, so. The gameplay is smooth and all looks pretty cool, but it lacks a bit of flavour, the only tension arises about who gets to score certain cities first.

94 - 33 : Tobago, Tournay, Uncle Chestnut's Table Gype

Tobago : Ivardo win.
1st time play. Really surprised by this! It's got a bit of deduction logic and a good element of risk/reward with the treasure. It's not the usual kind of fight, build, conquer race game, and I quite like it. You play on a hex grid map with various terrain and landmarks. Play cards to deduce the location of treasure and drive around the map picking up treasure and bonus amulets. I got a bit lost in trying to determine the tactics, but the easy play style and the theme are spot on!

Tournay : RicardoRix win.
Is this Troyes's little brother? It plays pretty easy but for me it does not gel anywhere near as well as Troyes. The cards of the 3 colours look pretty similar, I am yet to be bitten by the bug yet.

Uncle Chestnut's Table Gype : RicardoRix win.
One of my favourite off-the-wall games. It's a bit like a crazy version of chinese checkers. My work collegue and I have been playing a serious amount of this game. It's a fairly light fun, tactical 2 player game although can be played 4-player.
