New "replay" features

Post by sourisdudesert »

We just improved the "game replay" controls.

Important: it concerns only games started AFTER December 9th 2019.

Most of the changes are visible when enabling the "Advanced replay features".

List of changes :
  • The interface has been simplified (quite a lot)
  • Go fast to end of the game.
  • Go fast to a specific move.
  • Go to next visible change (smaller step than a "move").
  • Go to current position in game log history.

Just tried a Blooms replay.
The 'go fast to end of game' just comes up with a page with a counter saying Move 1,2,3,4... and doesn't actually show the moves.

In fact the goal of this feature is to show the final state of a game (as quickly as possible), and not to show the moves.

"Go to the end" should do what you want.

How is that helpful? It's rare that I would view a replay just to see the final position.

I used to use it as a fast forward, sit back and watch the game play out, I might hit the play button which stopped the game and then I could single step through or fast forward again.

It might not be helpful for you but some players requested from a long time ago the possibility to review the final state of a game, so now it's there.

ok. IMO it was the most helpful button on the panel, now its the least. :D

why not have a Fast Forward button and a skip to the end...

It’s been a long time since I asked for the "Go fast" feature in the replay, so I can only be satisfied that it is implemented.
I hope this improved replay will help ensure that bug reports systematically inform the move numbers, because before this change, members were reluctant to do so.
However, I do not understand the usefulness of the double display of the replay buttons, which I find disturbing.
Finally, the appearance of a menu on the last button is surprising: if the interface uses buttons, there should be no menus.

Re: New "replay" features - Go To

Post by Daredek »

There used to be a Go To (move #). Any plans to reinstate that?
I used it all the time when replaying hanabi games.

Never mind. Found it implemented in Game log history. :)
