Game maximum duration of 21 days missing

Post by twistytroll »

It would be nice to have a maximum game duration of 21 days, too.

Consider the increase in currently available game durations in percent:

2 days
3 days (+ 50%)
5 days (+ 66%)
7 days (+ 40%)
10 days (+ 43%)
15 days (+ 50%)
30 days (+ 100%)

That last 100% step is pretty big.
21 days would be 3 weeks, that's a natural time span.

I always feel that 30 days are way too long. But 15 days can affect your non-gaming life.

But 15 days can affect your non-gaming life.
Just think about it:

Half of the time is for your opponent.
This leaves you 7 days per game.

Half of your own thinking time must be reserved to complete the game to the final winning position.
This is because there are Midnight Zombies out there: A  Midnight Zombie  is a player who plays a very poor game but plays immediately. Only when his position is completely lost and you have spent more then half of your thinking time will he begin pondering about every move. From now on he will make one decision a day. And he'll make it shortly after midnight, when he's sure that you've just gone to bed. You need 8 hours of sleep and there are 24 hours a day. Just think about it ...

This leaves you 3 days per game.
On these three days you might have a rendezvous with your lover, a business dinner and maybe your wedding day ...

Therefore, 21 days is the effective minimum for tournaments where the game days are not known in advance.
