make a "practice" mode

Postby gamergod88 » 01 December 2017, 09:21

i think "practice" or "tutorial" mode, where you play a board game against bots, would be much more fun than reading rules and watching videos to learn the game. Instead a mode were you can learn your way around a new game, without losing karma or gaining any points, would be much more effective and fun. :)

I completely agree. There are some complicated games out there that would be good to do a practice game on.

You could make a dummy account, and use the hotseat mode. Although you might need to be premium to do this.

yes I did this days ago by playing games I don't like and play with 'first game on bga players' who usually leave to gain membership, but I doubt non members should have the right to test game too

Why not? Should not everyone, paying and non-paying, know how to play the game?

(Not that this suggestion is the only way to learn a game. Just making a point that learning how to play the game and use the interface should not be a "privilege.")

A good bot would take a lot of work to make for most of the games.

The site seems to have a way to make tutorials for games, no idea how well that works though.

The problem with adding "bots" is that it usually take a very long time to do.
For most games, it would take about as much time to add a bot to 1 game, as to create a new game entirely.

The question would then be : would you rather have bots for every game, or twice as many games available ?
