I would like to present a bug, which I found weird (I thought there are no bugs in this game).
The game: https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=199207423
The issue: At some point in the game (Move 185), Zen-emon, who has Devotion amulet, buys (only) a Cloth Souvenir (so he spends 1 coin on it) and uses the Devotion Amulet.
Because of his power, he spends only 1 coin for the Souvenir (instead of 2), so his Devotion should obviously get him 1 coin to the Temple, not 2.
But he gets 2 coins to the temple... :s
Since Kinko buying a 3-coins meal in the inn and using Devotion, gets only 2 coins to the temple (because he only spends 2 coins for the 3-coins meal, and not 3, thanks to his power), I think Zen-emon should have the same rule when using Devotion in Villages, buying souvenirs of 2 or 3 coins.
Devotion: Give the temple the coins spent on acquiring any kind of purchasable card.
