Can't see opponent's board

Playing turn-based (all I've done with this game), I cannot see my opponent's layout, nor she mine. It would be useful for teaching purposes, because she isn't catching some of the basics. And given that it is a card game played out on a table, surely in real time, you could see the other's layout?

There is a keyhole-with-eye symbol next to each player's user name. If you click on it, you see that player's layout.
