In the L & T expansion, there are some cards which require the player to do things even if the player has passed for the final time (and in a winning position).
Example: Vial of Light.
This card allows player to choose one essence if a card of an opposing player is destroyed. This can lead to a situation where;
Player 1 has passed on (say) 12 points + 1 for the pass for 13 points.
Player 2 is on (say) 8 points and is still playing.
Player 1 sees there is no way for P2 to catch up. So leaves the table (maybe to make a hot drink or whatever).
P2 destroys a card, maybe with the whip or whatever. P1 is gone from the table - his time runs out - he is ejected.
Yes, it's a situation that might not occur very often as it needs a lot of moving parts, but it is a situation all players need to be aware of.
