Field Scoring Options

Post by Krunce »

Hi all!

Having some trouble understanding the difference between the two field scoring options here!

1st edition rules: each completed city is worth 3 points to the player with the most farmers surrounding the city.

International rules - each field is worth 3 points per adjacent completed city.

I'm accustomed to competing for the most meeples in a field and the players with the most meeples gains 3 points per completed city touching or in that field. I can't quite tell whether that's 1st edition or international.

Thanks for your help!

In the original rules you checked each city one at a time and counted the number of farmers in fields adjacent to the rules. This is by far the superior rule, but in the 'wild' it became apparent a lot of casual players found it confusing and the game was subsequently simplified (it didn't help that for a lot of players the rules might vary depending on whose box you opened). To simplify each field was checked separately and then scored based on the number of cities, that is what is described as 'international' here and which you are familiar with.

Summary:

1st edition field scoring:
Each city is considered one by one. All farmers in all the (different) fields touching one city count toward this city. The (shared) majority of farmers (they can lie on several different fields, as long as those fields touch the city) wins 3 points for this city. Then the next city is considered...

International rules:
Each field is considered one by one. First, the (shared) majority of farmers in a field is determined. Then one counts the finished cities touching this field. 3 points are awarded per city. Then the next field is considered...
