Confusing interface

Post by SquashEngineer »

It’s tough to learn this game, with the confusion introduced by the interface.

Initially:
a. how to perform the moves is not obvious;
b. how to make use of the special cards is not immediately apparent (grab and slide, select, move);
c. it's not obvious what will happen when you select tiles on the screen;
d. It's not obvious you have additional plays, once you have special cards in place;
e. it is difficult to see the difference in the card colours when the cards are stacked so closely;
f. It wasn't obvious that the tiles were communal at first - I thought I had access to all of them.

Granted, after a few plays, some of these limitations go away. As a new player to Coppenhagen, some of the basic gameplay actions, and the digital methodology of playing (how to select), were not immediately apparent. It got better with experience.

Playing on iOS phone rather than PC has:

a. hover capability to describe the card capabilities does not work;
b. screen real estate is congested and needs zoom significantly;
c. being able to see and interpret the small icons is difficult;
d. it is difficult to see the difference in the card colours when the cards are stacked so closely;
e. dragging tiles on the phone is imprecise.
