#4 - Solo Challenge [December 2022] INACTIVE

Post by Marcus Aurelius »

The Challenge of December is now active. Initially, I had planned to select the “random map” option, but the result didn’t seem optimal. So, It will be fixed map again. Players will play Hadsch Hallas versus the automa of the month Itars.

If you are looking for a quick way to play Gaia Project on your own without any stress, armed of your cup of tea or coffee, this challenge was built for you. The goal is quite simple : get the highest score possible in solo mode. Thanks to the digital age, we can easily compare our scores with other players (same setup each month) and watch replays from the best. Start a good playlist and play serenely… No more timer pressure ! Read the “Rules” section for more details.

Image

22 players participated in the last challenge. The competition for the top score was very tight. Bravo to boulou2, akeba1 and abizaas for reaching 230 points, ahead of Niall, phoenix0903 and rundragon16 who scores more than 200 points! Watching your replays was very inspiring. A lot of new players joined us in November, a warm welcome to them. I want to thank all the other players who score under 200. It’s good to not be alone !

Scores of the month : elite rank for the top 5 players and cadets for the others.

  • Soyesauce 126 vs Automa 116 - 126 vs Automa 116 - Focus on Economy, then Nav/AI
  • KoBeRiGhT 161 vs Ultoma 170 – Focused hard on Eco little on GaiaForming and Nav – Should have taken the 3pts/ Gaia Planet earlier.

1st step: Create a new table. Select “training mode” on the Game Mode tab and “Fixed map” on the Game setup tab. Choose 1 player and click on “Start game”. Click on the red box automa of the month (Itars).
2nd step: Select the difficulty you think you can handle.
3rd step: Select the faction Hadsch Hallas. Play the game.
4rd step: Post your score(s), mention the chosen difficulty (see the format below)

Optional: insert the link of the game (you can find it on your profile – tab (x) games played. Copy/paste the link of your game(s). (see the format below)
Optional: Mention which techs have been crucial for you (Terraforming, Navigation, Artificial Intelligence, Gaia Project, Economy, Science). (see the format below)
Optional: Comment your results. (see the format below)

Ideally, use this format : YourNickname Score vs AutomaLevel Score – LinkOfTheGame – Techs focus – YourComment (e.g. : Marcus Aurelius 222 vs Ultoma 165 – www.boardgamearena.com/game=12345 – Focus on Science and Terraforming until mid-game.

Hi Marcus Aurelius,

Thanks for setting us off. Love the new format with fancy graphics!

I've had a couple goes already. Scored 167 initially, then this effort on my second go. I think it's going to be harder to break 200 this time, but there are some intriguing possibilities to try out! I wouldn't normally go Gaia with Hadsch Hallas, but the set-up really seems to push that way for scoring. Then the AI track teases me with all those green planet points on advanced tech at the top, but how do I get up that without compromising too much on everything else?

Niall 174 vs Ultoma 170 - https://boardgamearena.com/3/gaiaprojec ... =322845254 - Tech spread fairly evenly across Economy, Navigation & Gaiaforming. VP from 3VP/green tech and top Gaia track.

I’m not as good as you are but I share your analysis. +Itars automa is hard to deal with. It blocks a lot of power action.

We just launch the challenge. I’m convinced that players will find some efficient strats. We will see. 😊

Edit : gg niall. Great game.

montybojangles 158 vs Automa 116 - https://boardgamearena.com/5/gaiaprojec ... =323165782 - nav and terraforming, limited tech, tried to hit round bonuses. First attempt. Only 2 natural feds, very low leech and only 37 turns.
Edit: have watched your and Niall's replays. Good games. We've tried very different approaches! Thanks for setting this up.

Soyesauce 125 vs Automalein 119 - Focus on Economy (don't know how I would win focusing on anything else)

This is my first victory against the automa so I'm so happy. It was still pretty close so I don't think I'm ready to take the difficulty up yet, but I will be giving it a try.

I understand you. :-) I've experienced so many defeats before my first win. Bravo!

The terraforming track, not an easy one. I have the intuition that this is the way to reach 180+.

Thanks for putting this together Marcus Aurelius, it's a fun idea. Time to refine this a bit better and then try terraforming!

Niall 194 vs Ultoma 173 - https://boardgamearena.com/3/gaiaprojec ... =323651845 - Economy, Terraforming & Nav

This one was more carefully planned out, after listening to the latest Paia Groject podcast, a whole 2 hours of Hadsch Hallas strategy (check it out)! Key beats I was going for:
Rd 1: Academy & max Economy track
Rd 2: Research lab
Rd 3: 1st Federation & research lab: recurring 3VP/fed advanced tech
Rd 4: PI (then 3 QIC> rescore fed for last 3 rounds)
Rd 5: 2nd 'organic' Fed & claim Fed on top of Terraforming track (compound with 5VP/fed round bonus)
Rd 6: 3rd Fed, 2VP/mine advanced tech. 2Q> score planet types

The Paia Groject podcast was really interesting to listen to after having struggled through this a couple times already, with all the challenges of playing the faction fresh in my mind. A key take-home for me was not to rush to upgrade to a PI too early, because its ability might look powerful, but is just a conversion at standard rates, not an income. This time I waited until I had a big pile of credits to convert into other stuff.
