Report a player that intentionally boycotts a game

Post by Alias_JJ »

Hi there,

A player intentionally boycotted a Hanabi game (3 mistakes so game over and losing Elo by the way). How can you report such behavior?

I'm trying to figure it out in their profile, but can't find any convenient report...

Than you.

Not sure what you mean by 'boycotted'.

If the player abandoned the game midway (which would be close to the meaning of boycotted), you can give them a public red thumb for 'this player intentionally abandons games' and if they do it to enough people, it will eventually affect their karma.

If they intentionally misfired repeatedly so you all lost (which seems more likely, given what you said about mistakes), you can red thumb them for 'another reason' (i.e. unsporting behaviour).

BGA is not going to take significant action in either case though, because your opponent is far from the first player to do either of these things in a Hanabi game.

The best thing you can do going forward is to play with people you know and trust if possible, and if not, to red thumb (publicly or privately) anyone who sabotages games, so at least you never have to deal with them more than once.

Same problem here
I joined an 2playerHanabi game, and the creator started the game.
Then he did 1 strange clue, 1 lucky blind move, then 3 bombs in a row !!
I just red thumbed him for another reason.

He could have just declined to start the game instead of doing this. :(

I think we need to do something about it. As a group, I mean. I suggest make a list of all players who do that and the link of the table which had this problem. Honesty people lose elo and time when someone has this toxic behaviour and clearly bga doesnt want to do something against this problem.

It doesn’t seem useful to me. You can’t check that no player is on the list before joining a table.

Since Red Thumb are limited (except if you Green thumb everyone else), now I just write a personnal comment for all good/bad players I meet.
The comment is shown on the player when I join a game. (Of course thoses comments aren’t shared with the community)

Maybe we should just ask to get more red thumbs tokens. Like 1 per day, in addition to the ones we currently have.

There is a group that does this, you can join it and then you can start games and limit it to the group: https://boardgamearena.com/group?id=9749982

People will report these activities and then you can go red thumb them (a personal red thumb as you can't globally red thumb a player you have not played with)

Red thumbs are only limited if you use them as a report. If you use "no, I want to avoid this person" you can give as many as you like, preventing them from joining any game you're in.

I have hundreds I'm sure.

Excuse me, can I join the group? It seems like only invited players can view it

The group page description indicates how to join the group ;) :
