Anyone else find it difficult to place meeple on card on iPhone?

I find it borderline impossible to place meeple a on cards when using my phone. If I tap anywhere on the card, it either does nothing or expands to show a description of the card. It doesn’t matter where I tap - the circle, anywhere else.

Has anyone figured out the trick?

For some games, switching to landscape mode helps.
