First Player Outpost Setup

Post by OldDuckCARdGuy »

The rules state in setup "c" section, "the first player is the one with the fewest outposts." in my game, i began the
second round as first player and had the majority of outposts to begin the round.

Is this a bug? Perhaps I am incorrect in some way or misread the game or rules. But I am passing along what I believe I had noticed
as this is in the beta; maybe someone wants feedback.

Anyway - thanks - it is a very cool game.

The "fewest outposts" first player rule only applies to the first round.
In the following rounds, whoever won the previous round gets to start the new one.

If you would be willing to show from the rules where the exception is located, feel free to help us.

And as a general comment about the game: if it were possible within the rules to begin a round as first player and have the majority of outposts, the game would be broken by design.

Hum, it’s in both the French and English rules, but they are slightly different:
French rules (p6 in official rulebook) https://cdn.1j1ju.com/medias/4f/66/c7-d ... -regle.pdf
« The winner of the previous round becomes the first player »

English rules I could find (probably not official but BGG):
« Next Round:
✦ Winner of the round is first player of the next.
✦ Return cards, place a new set of tokens as above, with fewer of the first player’s colour face up. »

The English rules are clearer. In French, it’s kind of suggested from the setup paragraph. I’ll create the bug report as a suggestion to follow English rulings.

To me, it sounds like we are agreeing.

The first player, regardless of round, would begin the round with the fewest outposts (ie 3 vs 4) was
what I read originally and was the cause of my concern as this did not happen for me.

The excerpt copied from the English rules below:

"✦ Return cards, place a new set of tokens as above, with fewer of the first player’s colour face up. "

means exactly this.

(I proposed to abandon the game out of fairness, but that game itself is not a concern, just the state of this
implementation.)

In case it is not clear to any of the readers:

this issue is not who begins the round.

The issue is beginning the round (presumably after winning, but it could also be the first round):

with both the first position and controlling 4 outposts instead of three.

Can you link the table ID / url so it’s easier for the dev to look at the issue?

It looks like the set ended on move 15; set two begins with my first move and four outposts under control already. My first move of the
second set did not add to my control.

Devs and testers, I thank you for all your work and attention given to Drones v Seagulls and thank you to BGA for hosting this implementation.

Cheers and sincere thanks!

This bug report from 46 days ago may be an identical situation that has the comment "developers haven't reproduced yet..." if anyone wants to take a look at it.
