Pulling my finger out

Post by Andrew Davidson »

The slowest part of my campaign game is the Allied supply as it requires lots of convoys and interception possibilities. To help speed up the interactions with the Axis player, Rondom, I tried using my mobile phone. I could click on an Allied unit and eligible ports with convoys would then light up green. But I couldn't figure out how to click the port to get the convoy button, as I do in the desktop interface. I'm using my finger rather than a mouse on the phone. Is there a special type of gesture when using the phone. I'm not adept with the different finger actions on an IPhone so maybe I'm missing something.

I have much better luck using the phone when it is in landscape mode / turned sideways.

Another useful thing you can do is discuss things in the chat (I am sure Rondom will be familiar with this). Simply send a message at the start of the supply phase, the usual phrasing is 'do you plan to intercept anything?'. You can usually then arrange to send a particular convoy first or to send a single unescorted convoy first so that the opponent uses the Surface Action.

Thanks for the suggestion but this seems too unnatural. From a gaming perspective, I wouldn't expect a straight answer to such a question from an canny opponent such as Rondom. And, from a historical role-playing perspective, I wouldn't expect the Allies and Axis to coordinate their fighting like this. In earlier times, there might be arranged battles such as the Combat of the Thirty but such chivalry was not the general style of WW2, which placed more emphasis on ruses and ruthless realpolitic. And the mind-games of deciding what order to run supplies is an interesting sub-game which I wouldn't want to spoil.
