Team play against doomsday machine?

Post by landdogger »

Has there been a discussion about enabling team play against a doomsday machine? My searches didn't turn up anything specific.

Thanks for considering! I have some friends and we'd love to play Space Empires 4x collaboratively :)

Is there a way to make this an official request for development?

Use suggestion request system (like bug system).

The Bug/Suggestions section allows you to suggest ideas as well as report bugs.

However, its important to understand some BGA philosophy. BGA prefers games to be digital implementations of physical games and definitely not games in their own right. SE4X has to my knowledge no cooperative scenarios. The Doomsday scenario is a solo play scenario. So, first you would need to persuade the designer to develop an appropriate scenario, then persuade the developer (who is a volunteer you can support here https://www.patreon.com/wargamesDEV/) to put in the dozens of hours to code it. So, perhaps some realism about the likelihood of getting this.

@RoberBr: you have such scenarios in https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/2299 ... ario-books.
It is near impossible to implement if BLOOD BROTHERS rule is used.
For example : "and may attack simultaneously", WTF ! Simultaneously, was does it mean ??????

Space Empires does indeed have cooperative variants. They are defined in the Close Encounters expansion (scenarios book, page 11).

However, I understand that the current scope of SE4X does not include Close Encounters, so I would understand if a cooperative scenario is out of the picture for now.

That said, cooperate seems like a combination of team current play, with a doomsday machine! Though I'm sure the programming isn't that simple ;)

It means that both players act as one player, but have two separate sets of units. So they should share the movement turn and the turn will end only after both have finished. Attacking together means that their ships fight together as a side. So if Blue and Red are blood brothers and each has a CA in a fight either could shoot first, it would be the same as one player having two CAs, but here each player chooses what ship to fire separately.

At least that is my understanding of it.
