Branch strategy

Post by Romain672 »

Hi,
I assume the 'branch' card (┐─└) is the worst card of the game. In solo games, if you are in a situation where you got few exits left, and you draw one of those, you can either play with 2cards in hand and try to end fast, or play that card and open (regularly) 3 new exits all not linked to each other :(
So what should I do with them? Create a trap for them of course!

So I will propose you a new strategy with that sample game: https://boardgamearena.com/archive/repl ... s=84207926;
On this game, you can see immediately that I create a space for both type of branch card (above and under the starting card).
Then I don't commit with the top trap since my hand is annoying, but I commit for the bottom one.

On this second example: https://boardgamearena.com/gamereview?table=363107637 I try to a branch top, then because I find a good trap spot, I create another trap for the TT tile.

If you want to try it, I suggest you to choose a spot for your first trap after your first play, and try to play around it.
Then, if you got lots of cards with many exits, choose a second spot for the second type of branch.
If you happen to draw a branch card, you can either play it into your trap and draw a new card ; or play it outside of your trap, which will let you play the other copy of it in your trap.
If you draw one branch card in the first or second turn of the game, don't create a trap for this type. Instead, do a trap for the second type of branch. This require lots of setup. Doing that full setup for a single card can be expensive.

The upside is when you got few exits left, and happen to draw one branch card, you can instead play that card into your trap, and have one extra trap to try to setup your end game.

Here is the full sample games. Note that forcing this strategy was new to me, so with time, I should became better at it. Then I should be able if I assume it's bad, to only do it when I got the right setup for it:
