Tichu - Round Robin Style (Shifting Partners Every Round)

Post by otiluke711 »

Number of Players: 4

Objective: Be the first player to reach 1000 or get the highest score after a certain number of rounds

Play with normal rules of Tichu but after each round your partner changes. Example of how scoring works over several rounds.

Round 1

Player A is partnered with Player C + Player B is partnered with Player D

Player A and Player C both receive 60 points from cards. Player B and Player D both receive 40 points from cards.

Overall Score

Player A: 60 points Player B: 40 points Player C: 60 points Player D: 40 points

Round 2

Player A is partnered with Player B + Player C is partnered with Player D

Plqyer A called small tichu and successfully made it for his/her team.

Player A and Player B both receive 150 points. Player C and Player D both receive 50 points.

Overall Score

Player A: 210 points Player B: 190 points Player C: 110 points Player D: 90 points

Round 3

Player A is partnered with Player D + Player B is partnered with Player C

Player B called Grand Tichu and successfully made it. At the same time, their team (player B and player C) 1-2 and score a double victory.

Player B and Player C both receive 400 points. Player A and Player D receive 0 points

Overall Score

Player A: 210 points Player B: 590 Points Player C: 510 points Player D: 90 points

Round 4

Player A is partnered with Player C + Player B is partnered with Player D

Player C calls Tichu and successfully makes it. Player A and Player C both successfully 1-2 and score a double victory.

Player A and Player C receive 300 points. Player B and Player D receive 0 points.

Overall Score

Player A: 510 points Player B: 590 Points Player C: 810 points Player D: 90 points

Round 5

Player A is partnered with Player B and Player C is partnered with Player D

Player C and Player D 1-2 and score a double victory.

Player C and Player D receive 200 points. Player A and Player B receive 0 points

Overall Score

Player A: 510 points Player B: 590 points Player C: 1010 points Player D: 290 points

Player C wins!

The rounds continue until one player reaches 1000. If there is a tie and more than 1 player has 1000 points, additional tiebreaker rounds are played until the tie is broken.

Please consider making this variant option available on BGA.

BGA does not support house rules unless the publisher allows.

The 500 point game is also a house rule. The official rules say the game is strictly at 1000. Thus, house rules are allowed.

I like this idea from Otiluke. It sound like interesting suggestion to make play.

Hi Otiluke!

Thank you for your idea, I do like the concept you've presented however, there seems to have some flaws - For instance, consider this scenario: Player A has 890 points, Player B has 980 points, and they are on the same team. In this situation, Player A might deliberately underperform because Player B only needs 20 points to win..

I'm not completely convinced this will work.

There’s no reason why the publisher would not allow this house rule.

Another situation that could arise:

The game could never end if someone calls GT or Small Tichu every round and fails.

Every other player partnered with that person would keep getting negative points.

Thus, the player with the most points at the end of a certain number of rounds wins the game.
