Clues published in chat.

Post by SquashEngineer »

What is the rationale for publishing the clues provided by player in the chat?

The clues provided are summarized in the game log after the active player has made their guess.

I find it unnecessarily clogs up the chat for this game.

The only rationale I can imagine is to see who provided which clues(s). Alternatively, that could have also been displayed in the log, rather than simply a straight list of words.

It sure does!

Looks like you're in for a surprise! :-p

I think this is bad, counter-intuitive and telepathy-oriented.

There are a lot of potentially offensive clues given by people, that have a connection to the word to be guessed, but someone might also randomly decide to get upset.

As one player specifically said: If the word is "cow" and there are 2 friends/husbands in the game, and 1 of them gives the other one's username (or part of username) as clue, because the one who guesses is born in the chinese year of the ox... but another player consideres that an insult... and reports.

Not sure how this is helping anyone.
Should the one giving the clue "always explain the ox-user" connection?

It seems more problematic than useful, IMO.

Soooo ... it's clue shaming? If someone is offended, can't they just report the game itself to the moderator, identify the offensive word, and have the mod deal with the fallout in the background - if required at all?

As I said, alternatively, the clue/name combo could have simply been put in the log (after the active guess of course) and avoid clogging up the chat.

As far as I can tell, this is a bug. It only happens to me after I refresh the game.
