All Threes missing in Rule set selection

Post by Hagardunor »

Hello

Pretty good idea to bring this generations old game on BGA.

I browsed through the menu in the lobby, and could not find the option "All Threes" in the Rule set selection, although it is present in the Game length selection.
Is it me or has something effectively been forgotten in the selection list ?

By the way, I have also some questions about the game :
  • what does "flip Matador" mean ?
  • this mention appears when playing : A new round starts and the Boneyard scores 5 points. What consequence Boneyard scoring has on the play ? Where do I find the Boneyard total score during a game ?
Thanks :)

Only the scoring option (Threes scoring) is present in custom rule set, as All Threes is not so popular.
However, you can still recreate All Threes by combining the right variants.

It is a button in Matador. Literally flips Matador's direction.

Boneyard is the 'opponent' of solo mode. It scores when the player overdraws or when a new round starts. Check player panel.

...
It seems nevertheless unconsistent to me : if you can never select the All Threes option in Rule set, you will never need the All Threes scoring option as well.

One can effectively play with the All Threes variant through the Custom variant, but it seems weird to me : why do not add directly All Threes in the Rule set ? I fear that present tortuous path will puzzle many players not familiar with dominoes as me

Am I right ?

The same can be said to Sebastopol, Muggins, Spinner Draw, Spinner Block, Bergen, and etc., then the rule set list will bloat.
The list is designed to reduce player pool split due to variant supports while standardizing the default options presented.
Thus, less popular options had to be trimmed and put into 'Custom' altogether.
You may think this is inconsistent, but this is the conclusion after developing some games with 'too many variants', quoting the players' comments.

However, i wonder whether the All Threes scoring will be selected even once as the Rule set does not exist

It has been selected at least once. Same for Sebastopol (First domino of each arm first).

Wow ! There is a huge shortcut between the Sebastopol variant I found here (1) and the First domino of each arm first selection. Not speaking of the fact that I had no clue at all about the meaning of this selection.

By the way, your comment above helps me much to improve the translation in french which is presently absolutely nonsense.

(1) The 6-6 is played as set. The 6-6 is a spinner and must be played on both ends and both sides, forming a 5-tile cross, before any other tile can be played
