Could this be the highest Spades score in BGA history?

Post by SkyDog »

I present to you, a Spades game with the final score of 695-685.
https://boardgamearena.com/8/spades?table=461626054
The score going into the second-to-last hand was our opponents' 495 vs. our 425.
I bid nil with my partner (GusyGus) bidding 5. Our opponents bid 8.
We all got our bids, resulting in a score of 575-575, with a tiebreaker hand needed.
On the tiebreaker, one of our opponents (Shaid) bid nil, but their partner (Creuzy) had only bid 2.
Our bid ended up being 11. My partner had last bid with an 8, and I'm assuming was looking to set the bid and not the nil.
We all got our bids again, resulting in the final score shown above.
Does anyone have a score that can beat it, or come even close?

No one looks at scores, just ARENA Rankings!

Nice! It should be pretty easy for someone from BGA to answer. I put the top end around 729 or 230 above the tie which is pretty unlikely. It would be a nice stat to add to the profile just for fun.

This was as close as I could find. https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=427393694. My partner was BlueSedan against Pelagio and Fsu-SteelerFan

We managed to tie the game over 500 by Blue Sedan successfully going Nil against our opponents who bid and made 11, while we tied the game with a bag point from my 1 bid. The next hand BlueSedan nilled again to bring the score to 676 to 624. Not nearly as close as your game but that one bag point our opponents gave us to let us tie, must have been haunting. Pelagio was on the right side of a similar score with a much bigger lead, I didn't investigate more, but I assume my partner and I got set as we finished well below 500 while Pelagio and his partner finished at 679 I believe.

I just played with 2 members from the group and the score you reached does not surprise me one bit.

Lol~! Not sure if that can be described as a victory! A mercy killing might have been more humane.

Yeah. It was an awful game. They were paired the game before and one of the opps had a tantrum. It made it so hard to bid …too many nil or 13 bids.

But yeah. I thought of ur post when this game happened.

I think I figured out the highest theoretical final score for a Spades game here.
889-859.
How did I get that?
It starts with the score being 499 to 498.
Both teams then have one 6 bid and one nil bid and all bids are made.
The team that started at 498 gets the bag, giving both teams a score of 659.
During the tiebreaker hand, one player bids 13 and the other three bid nil.
If all of the bids were made, the final score would be 889-859.
It's never gonna happen, but I think that's the highest possible score.

I like the basis of your analysis that it is only possible to tie once above 500. What if the last hand you describe was repeated twice, 499 vs 469 with a tie at 699, and then the same hand for 929 vs 899.
