How can I lose an 1v1 game with a drop of 33 elo?

Post by SkyZerg »

My elo was 292 and my opponent's elo was 256 before the game. The game ended 'normally' (no one rage quit or suffer any time penalty). Is there any error in the elo calculation?

Your K factor (multiplier of ELO points change) triples during your first 10 games for a game.

You didn't complain when you got +55 (https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=483806052) or +58 (https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=485059970) for winning 3-player games ;)

Another example of why hiding the Elo calculation is not helpful. The old k factor presentation was more useful. Sadly it was removed in a recent bga "upgrade" that, like other examples, removes useful functionality that users would like to see put back.

Because being the first in a 3-player game is counted as winning 2 1v1 matchup. The elo increase is expected to be higher

Yes, but 58/2 = 29, which is close enough to 33. You won/lost a similar amount of elo per opponent when you won/lost the game.

In any case, as others have pointed out the answer is the "elasticity (K) factor"
