In the real world, bonus actions can be taken at anytime but the BGA rules only permit bonus actions after the main 2 actions.
I believe that the BGA implementation follows the rules as written, but what's confusing you might be this: the BGA implementation does not expressly refer to your action with the word "bonus",
unless it's after the main two actions.
What I mean is this: suppose favoured suit is military (red). When I start my turn, the action line tells me I have two actions remaining. Suppose I buy a card from the market. Now it tells me I have one action remaining. Then I play a card action from a military card. The action line on the screen still tells me I have one action remaining. However, neither the game log nor anything else on screen expressly says that the card action I just took was a bonus action.
On the other hand, if I play two actions that are non-bonus, and I still have a favoured-suit card with available actions, then the action line specifically says, "you may take 1 bonus action" or something like that. Here it does use the word bonus.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong as I wrote this from memory (I don't have a game ongoing at the moment to doublecheck this).
