Green card scoring 2nd edition

Post by MeliaeC »

In the second edition rule book it states "Count all of the science symbols in your City and on constructed stages of your Wonder". In regards to the second half of the statement, does this mean that if I've used (tucked) a green card to build a wonder that I can still use it as part of scoring overall green cards?

No, cards used to build wonder stages never count for anything other than having built that stage. (No other player even gets to know which card you used.) It's referring to those wonder stages (not present on all wonders of course) whose actual effect is to give you a science symbol.

robinzig is correct...buried cards are essentially removed from the game and count for nothing. Perhaps think of it this way. Each wonder stage has symbols on it (shields, victory points, resource wildcards, science symbol wildcards, coins, etc.). If you construct that stage of the wonder, then you receive the benefit(s) indicated by the symbols on that stage you built. What you used to build that stage of the wonder (resources you own, resources you bought, and the card you buried under that stage) are separate from the wonder stage itself and are irrelevant. On your turn, two of your choices are to build the structure (science, military, civilian, etc.) and build a stage of your wonder. If you use a green card to build a stage of your wonder, then that science building was never built, so it basically doesn't exist and you wouldn't get credit for it. Hopefully, one of these statements resonates with you and is helpful to understand.
