Confusing use of 'Done' in the interface

Post by GeraldineMerida »

I have several times missed out on trades, etc, because I clicked on what I wanted to trade, then clicked on the 'Done' option. But 'done' here doesn't mean 'done': it's more like 'Cancel the trade I just asked for'.

I'm sure regular players have trained themselves to ignore this button unless they wish to cancel their action, but for the rest of us, PLEASE replace 'Done' with something more accurate/intuitive, like 'Cancel'. (I'm guessing this would be a relatively small programming change, but it would be SO helpful, especially as there is no 'undo'/'confirm' option in this game.)

The last person I played with had this issue and it ruined their experience. This is a blemish on an otherwise great implementation of this game.

Hello,
I also got confused by this in a game in progress (#550614509) and therefore missed out on the Trade action.
Maybe replace "Done" with "I don't want to trade" and display a confirmation box if some resources have already been selected?

Yeah the same thing just happened to me and I came here to see if it's a problem for everyone else. Really messes up the experience because you can't undo it either. In a tight game like Targi with a limited number of turns, it's pretty inexcusable.

I voted for this so long ago that I forgot I'd voted for it.

The button did say "Cancel" from 2013 until a couple of months ago, it's not something that regular players just got used to.

https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=58353 (to change the button from "Cancel" to "Done") was raised in 2022 and implemented by an admin in June 2024, since it's a change that can be applied through the translation interface, even if the developer is no longer active.

My request that it be rolled back for detrimentally altering the meaning was rejected, so I made a follow-up suggestion at https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=130871 (to change the button from "Done" to "No further trades"), if anybody wants to vote for that or if any admin wants to implement it.

I agree that "Done" is more confusing than the original "Cancel". Everybody I've played the game against this summer has misinterpreted the button as meaning "do this trade", and has wasted their action.
